Four Chinese men gambling
A black and white portrait photograph showing four Chinese men gambling. The man standing on the left of the image is nearest the camera and is leaning forward, his right hand resting on his thigh, looking at the game on the ground. The two men in the middle ground are sitting on the floor, also looking down. One of them holds a pointed implement in his right hand. The fourth man stands against a wall behind them, arms folded, also looking downward. A variety of objects are laid out on the floor, possibly gaming counters and coins. The four men wear traditional Chinese clothes, including jackets and skullcaps. Two of them have queues (pigtails) visible. What is probably the head of a fifth seated figure is just visible on the extreme right. Original caption (handwritten beneath): 'Gamblers'.
The game they are playing may be Fan Tan.
