Bound sheet. Col. ms. Medium: Vellum, laid on linen. Physical description Note: The neck of the vellum skin is to the left. Scale: [ca. 1:300 000]. Additional Places: Ireland. Contents Note: Note at Smerwick, C. Kerry about the Spanish incursion which was defeated by the English, Scale cartouche has motto: 'Vivat Regina Elisabeth'. Two blank cartouches. Garter coat of arms, Fortifications shown at Wexford.

Administrative / biographical background
The Munster rebellion of the 1570s was crushed by the English. Following the Commisioners' tour of inspection in 1584, the land was parcelled out for plantation by English people to provide a garrison and to 'civilise' the Irish.
