Three Fijian woman and two men in front of a woven fence.

A landscape photograph of two Fijian women standing behind two men and another women sitting on the ground. They are all in front of an elaborately woven fence. The man sitting on the left is wearing a white 'sulu', a traditional Fijian type of kilt. The two standing women are also wearing 'sulu', but these are calf-length and decorated, possibly indicating they are married. The middle man is wearing a highly patterned 'sulu' and holding a woven fan in his right hand. The righthand woman seated on the ground is wearing a plan white wrap-around. None of the group are wearing tops.

The photograph is captioned 'Fijians. Levuka.'

According to Dr R. W. Coppinger, HMS Alert arrived at Levuka on 18 September and departed for Suva on 11 October 1880.
