A photograph of two Australian Aboriginal men posing for the camera in front of a small encampment. The man on the left is standing with his feet apart and a long spear in his raised right hand, preparing to throw it. The man on the right has a wooden boomerang in his raised right hand. The camp in the background consists of a two temporary tent-like structures of saplings, covered with bark[?] and cloth (possibly Government-issued blankets), and topped with branches. Behind the righthand man, an Aboriginal man, dressed in European clothes, reclines on the ground near two children.

The photograph is captioned: 'Natives. Port Denison. Queensland.'

Dr R. W. Coppinger records Alert arriving at Port Denison sometime in Mid May (no date specified) and leaving on 24 May 1881.
