Correspondence concerning the prize MARIA, 1799-1804.

Correspondence concerning the cargo of the Danish snow MARIA, master and owner named Abelsted, detained by HMS SYREN (1782) on 1 December 1798 and later condemned at Barbados:

(1) Letter from Mr R. Wells at Barbados, acting as an attorney for James Grubb, concerning the cargo owned by him, dated 1 February 1799.
(2) Copy of the opinion of Sir John Nicholl, the King’s Advocate, relating to the MARIA case, sent to Gosselin at Cheltenham, by John Cobb, Doctors’ Commons, London, dated 21 June 1803.
(3) Letters to Gosselin from John Browne Cutting, agent for Grubb and others, at Easteys Hotel, Southampton Street, Covent Garden, London, dated between 12 and 29 January 1804. Also copies of three replies from Gosselin at the Tavistock Hotel.
