Letters from Nevil Maskelyne to Joseph Banks.

Letter dated 28th May 1802 discussing Baron Zach’s letters requesting copies of the Nautical Almanac and Greenwich observations. Maskelyne states he will order the Nautical Almanac from Elmsly’s shop, while the copy of Taylor’s logarithms, wanted by his friend, January Śniadecki, can be obtained from Wingrave’s when the final payment of the subscription is received; Zach and Herschel think Pallas and Ceres should be in a class of their own due to their orbit and size; Zach questions eccentricity of Pallas’s orbit. Also includes a note that the death of Ramsden has meant the loss of £200 paid towards a new vertical circle and the loss of the instrument to the Seeberg Observatory, an that Nevil was hoping to get one from Troughton.
