Letters from Nevil Maskelyne to Joseph Banks.

Letter dated 18th November 1794 concerning Mr Vince’s paper for the Bakerian lecture; Mr Crosley reported they were to sail with the West India convoy, carrying 5 timekeepers, 3 Earnshaw and 2 Arnold. Four doing well, but one Arnold pocket watch very problematic; letter from Count Bruhl with a packet from Mr Krafte(?) An Eleve of the late Mr Euler, containing a rigorous solution of the problem for clearing the moon’s distance from the sun or a star of the effect of refraction & parallax; letter from Mr Robertson re examining Harriot’s mathematical papers (which should not be published), while the astronomical papers were given to a gentleman recommended by Dr Hornsby who lacked mathematical knowledge. Mentions Dr Bradley’s observations.
