Letters from Nevil Maskelyne to Joseph Banks.

Letter dated 19th April 1802, about Mr Johann Hieronymus Schröter’s letter concerning the discovery of a new planet by Dr Olbers. Maskelyne adds more observations of it from the French Astronomers.

Johann Hieronymus Schröter (30 August 1745 – 29 August 1816) was a German astronomer He wrote a important study on the topography of the moon, was elected a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1794 and elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in April 1798. For his work the lunar crater Schröter and the Martian crater Schroeter are named after him, as is Schröter's Valley on the Moon.
