Letter written by Frederick Jennings Thomas from HMS BOSTON to his sister Miss Mary Thomas.

Letter written by Thomas, aged 13 at the time, from HMS BOSTON to his sister Miss Mary Thomas in Southampton. He writes that he took the opportunity to send a letter since the sloop LYNX was about to go to England. In the letter he mentions that a brig that was captured and sold for about £6,000, but he doesn’t know when he will receive the money. He writes ‘Now is the time for taking Prizes, Halifax Harbour is full of prizes sent by different ships on this station.’ He also mentions the possible arrival of Prince Edward, writing ‘We expect Prince Edward on Board every day, I hope he will not admire us very much, if he does I am afraid we shall have to conduct him to the Bay of Fundy, which be extremely cold, and not a very good passage.’
