Letter written by Thomas from HMS BOSTON at Halifax Harbour to his sister Miss Mary Thomas in Southampton. In the letter he mentions that he believes that they will be spending the winter in the West Indies, writing ‘I am sure you would like to go there to pass away our winter, you would not be troubled then with chilblains and many other disagreeable complaints….’ He also writes of a desire to capture more prizes, writing ‘We understand here that we are going to war with the Americans if so we shall make our futures, but I am afraid it is not true as it has been expected such a long time.’
