Letter written by Thomas from HMS SPARTIATE off Vigo on the northwestern coast of Spain, to his sister Miss Mary Thomas. In his letter he mentions current events including Lord St Vincent resuming his position at the head of the Admiralty, and also the acquittal of Lord Melville, of which he writes ‘Was I not on such good cruizing ground, sh’d almost be inclined to envy Godfrey’s attendance at the trial – it must I sh’d suppose have been highly interesting’.
