Box 1: Manuscript journal in 4 volumes covering the service of Caslon as sub-lieutenant on the light cruiser HMS CENTAUR and the aircraft carrier HMS VINDICTIVE in the Mediterranean, 1921-1922. There are many enclosures including typescript sheets, plans, photographs, concert and theatre programmes.
Box 2: Notebook on European naval history, 1916. Notebook on navigation made as midshipman on HMS LORD NELSON, 1917-1919. Personal diaries kept by Caslon, 1921-1926, including references to his work for the British Fascists in London.

Administrative / biographical background
Caslon started his career in the Navy as a midshipman on the battleship HMS LORD NELSON in 1917-1919. He served with the 3rd Light Cruiser Squadron in the Mediterranean in 1921-1922 and gained the rank of lieutenant in 1923. He then served on attachment to the Royal Air Force and trained for observer duties with 440 (Fleet Reconnaissance) Flight before this unit embarked on the aircraft carrier HMS EAGLE. Caslon was promoted to lieutenant-commander while on the emergency list in 1931. His service during the Second World War included a period with the Fleet Air Arm at HMS Daedalus. He later became the first commanding officer of TS Stoke, the Sea Cadet Corps unit at Stoke Newington in London, commissioned in 1946.
