Uncatalogued: Transcript of an emigrant voyage to Australia on the SALSETTE, 1853
Handwritten transcript of a journal kept by John Joseland, a passenger on the barque SALSETTE (1839), master John Venables, during a voyage from Portsmouth to Melbourne, between 1 March 1853 and 14 July 1853. The departure was delayed until 10 March 1853, due to bankruptcy proceedings against the shipowners.
The transcript was made by John Pickford and is dated 23 May 1854. There is also a typescript copy (31 pages), made in 1977.
