Page 167 (recto): Bantam (also known as Banten), Java, with sketches of coast near Java Head.

Page 168 (verso): At Bantam Roads they work hard to load the ship with goods for Japan and Taiwan. Sentries are posted at night for fear of local people running amok, murdering their families and others, including sailors aboard ships, after consuming opium. A sailor dies of the bloody flux, and Barlow is dangerously ill with it for a time.
