Page 175 (recto): Capture of the EXPERIMENT by the Dutch in the "Straights of Banka", (Bangka Strait, Indonesia).

Page 176 (verso): Master Cook, a wealthy merchant, dies and is buried at sea. While passing through the Straits of Bangka a fleet of eight Dutch ships blocks their way. The EXPERIMENT clears for battle, uncertain whether England is at war with Holland. Outnumbered, they surrender to the Dutch, who plunder the ship. Barlow manages to save some of his gold.
