The dog is standing at an angle, slightly to the (viewer's) left on the grass in the garden at Herbert & Kathleen Slade's house in Portsmouth. A note on the album page states 'Second part of Easter leave 1919; before going to "Hillside", Fareham'.

The photograph is captioned '"Becky" - Mrs Downing's dog / 21st May 1919'.

Engineer Lieutenant Commander Herbert Allan Slade was appointed to the Department of the Engineer-in-Chief on 18 April 1918 and remained there until a successor was appointed in August 1922.
