An informal photograph of Chief Petty Officer Pascoe dressed in his prize-winning costume as John Bull with a boxer dog 'Toby' on the deck of the battleship HMS Resolution (1915). He is standing dressed in white trousers, waistcoat, black cravat and black tail coat with a shiny top hat and sea boots. He holds the chain leash to the boxer 'Toby' in his right hand. There is snow on the deck of the Resolution.

The photograph is captioned 'C.P.O. Pascoe. Prize-winning costume at 'Orion's' New Year dance /1917-18 / "Toby"'.

Engineer Lieutenant Herbert Allan Slade had been appointed to HMS Resolution on 3 May 1916 while it was building. He was promoted to Engineer Lieutenant Commander with seniority of 1 August 1917 having passed 'very creditably for rank of E.L.Cr' on 5 April 1917. Horace Marriott joined the Resolution on 9 October 1916 and left on 14 May 1918.
