An informal photograph of Captain Edward Francis Bruen (1866-1952) standing on board the battleship HMS Resolution (1915) with 'Ginger' a terrier sitting on a bollard side-on to the camera. Captain Brien is looking at the camera with his right hand placed against the side of the dog. Captain Bruen was promoted to Rear Admiral on 23 September 1917.

The photograph is captioned 'Captain E. F. Bruen & "Ginger" 1917'.

Engineer Lieutenant Herbert Allan Slade had been appointed to HMS Resolution on 3 May 1916 while it was building. He was promoted to Engineer Lieutenant Commander with seniority of 1 August 1917 having passed 'very creditably for rank of E.L.Cr' on 5 April 1917.
