Engineer Lieutenant Herbert Allan Slade joined the battleship at HMS Hercules's (1910) commissioning on 31 July 1911. He was then appointed to RN College Dartmouth on 4 May 1914. This photograph may be when he had time for shore leave before joining Dartmouth.
