Engineer Lieutenant Herbert Allan Slade had been appointed to HMS Resolution on 3 May 1916 while it was building. He was promoted to Engineer Lieutenant Commander with seniority of 1 August 1917 having passed 'very creditably for rank of E.L.Cr' on 5 April 1917. Benjamin J. Clarke joined the Resolution on 1 August 1916.
