Bundles of designs for decorative parts of uniforms such as cap bands, cap peaks, cap badges, epaulettes, shoulder straps, sleeves, collars and belts. Consisting of specifications, instructions, tracings, card templates and samples of material, also rubbings of engravings on sword blades.
Box 1: Designs for Chilean Navy circa, circa 1891-1929.
Box 2: Designs for US Navy and New York Yacht Club, circa 1878-1918. Including blueprints showing officers olive drab breeches, 1925. Designs and printed uniform regulations for US Marine Corps and US Army, circa 1881-1936. Including a copy of the 'Army and Navy Journal' from 6 February 1926. Designs for Japanese Navy, circa 1906-1932. Designs for Royal Hellenic Navy and Royal Hellenic Air Force, circa 1913-1947. Also designs for a Polish Navy aiguillette, 1939, and badges for use on a replica of Nelson's coat. Box 3: Designs for Chilean Navy, circa 1886-1945. Designs for Royal Navy, circa 1890-1940. Designs for Royal Naval Artillery Volunteers, Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, Royal Yacht Squadron,Trinity House, Siamese Navy and others. Also some typescript lists and correspondence regarding minimum trade selling prices fixed by The Hand Embroiderers Federation, 1922-1923.

Administrative / biographical background
Joseph Starkey Ltd were embroiderers, gold and silver lacemen, and makers of military accoutrements, based in London. Towards the end of the nineteenth century Joseph Starkey occupied premises at 23 Conduit Street. Later the business moved to 21 George Street, Hanover Square. During the 1970s it became an associate company of the tailors Gieves & Hawkes Ltd at 1 Savile Row.
