Uncatalogued: Journal of Private Edward Harper, Royal Marine Light Infantry

Journal of Edward Harper, covering a period of four years as a private in the Royal Marine Light Infrantry, Chatham Division, between 12 February 1901 and 14 February 1905. It includes his service on the cruiser HMS GIBRALTAR (1892), flagship of the Cape of Good Hope Squadron, between 12 June 1902 and 17 November 1903, the composite screw gunboat HMS PARTRIDGE (1888), between 17 November 1903 and 30 November 1904, and his voyage back to Chatham on the depot ship HMS SIMOOM ex HMS MONARCH (1868), between 30 November 1904 and 14 February 1905. There is also an introduction covering the early years of his life. Two photographs, a Christmas card, and two family letters are loose inside the volume.
