Page 13 (recto): Barlow does not wish to be apprenticed to a waterman, and so his uncle obtains a place for him on the NASEBY through a contact in the Navy Office. He signs his indentures as apprentice to the Chief Master's Mate.

Page 14 (verso): Barlow travels to Ratcliff Cross, where his new master lives, and the following day sets out to journey to Chatham via Gravesend.
