Valorous' (1851) and 'Discovery' (1873) alongside in Disco Harbour
Valorous' (1851) [left] and 'Discovery' (1873) [right] alongside in Disco Harbour, during the transfer of coal and provisions prior to 'Alert' (1856) and 'Discovery' departing for the north. 'Discovery' went alongside at 7.30am, and at 8.30am commenced the transfer of 41 tons of Welsh coal and two tons of North Country coal (for cooking), as well as 35 tons of provisions and stores. The process was complete at 3.30pm. The decks were covered with casks and cases, until they could be stowed properly above and below decks.
