Starboard broadside views of 'Discovery' (1873) [left] and 'Alert' (1856) [right] secured to a floe off Cape Prescott. In the foreground some of the officers are taking observations. The ice moved eastward in the afternoon of 12 August, which allowed the ships to proceed under steam northward. The official catalogue states that this photograph was taken on 9 August. However, the angle to the cliff is the same as Plate 26, raising doubts as to how correct this is.
