A coal seam, about 25 feet thick, in a ravine in Water-Course Bay found by Mr C. Hart (Naturalist) to the northeast of Discovery Harbour. The seam of coal was discovered on 21 July, and was visited by Cartmel (Engineer) and a party on 24 July. It was visited again by Cartmel with a party on 4 August and 8 August. Most of the ship's company went to the coal seam on 15 August.
