Possibly a view from 'Discovery' (1873) along the coast to Hayes Point, with 'Alert' (1856) beset in the ice in the distant. As the two ships passed Cape Louis Napoleon and northward to Cape Norton Shaw, the ice forced them to seperate and remain close inshore. However, the location is not positively identified, as the sheer cliffs with the scree slopes are very similar to the coastline off Cape Prescott. Moreover, the nature of the ice is wrong from the official description and the one by A. H. Markham in that it is not up to 20 feet high and closely packed.
