Taken looking west from the shore below the slopes of Mount Cartmel, with store tent, and magnetic and pendulum obervatories in middle foreground. In the background are the slopes of Mount Ovibos (off bow of 'Discovery') and French Cape (middle of picture). To the left of the picture is the western slope of Bellot Island. The tide gauge was set up by 17 September, and it came on to snowing heavily periodically from 20 September 1875. 17 to 19 September 1875
