Four different compositions of 'Alert' (1856) in the ice dock in Dobbin Bay.
Four different compositions of the port view of 'Alert' (1856) just aft of the broadside, showing her in the ice dock in Dobbin Bay with Cape Hilgard in the background. 'Alert' (1856) and 'Discovery' steamed up Dobbin Bay on 14 August 1875 and secured to the land ice at about 5.30pm. At 6pm they commenced to cut an ice dock for each ship, finishing at about 9.30pm. On 15 August the ships left the docks after blasting a passage through the ice to a lead off Cape Louis Napoleon.
