'Discovery' (1873) with awnings rigged in Discovery Harbour, Lady Franklin Sound (Bay)

Starboard near stern view of 'Discovery' (1873) with awnings rigged in Discovery Harbour, Lady Franklin Sound (Bay). Taken from the shore below Mount Cartmel looking west along the coast of Discovery Harbour towards Mount Ovibos (just aft of 'Discovery') and French Cape (to the left of the picture). In the middle distance the tide gauge tripod has been erected on the shore, completed on 7 September 1875. A new one was commenced off the stern of 'Discovery' on 14 September as the tripod was inadequate. Five unidentified crew pose in the foreground, possibly relating to one of the many hunting parties sent out for Musk Oxen, or to survey the harbour.
