Recto: Against Barlow's advice the captain orders the best sails to be replaced by old sails, and as a result the old mainsail is destroyed in a gust of wind. The captain blames Barlow and relieves him of his post as chief mate. Verso: The captain complains about Barlow and he is sent on board the KINGFISHER for the voyage home. On the way back they see a school of more than fifty whales.

Page 291 (recto): The FLEET FRIGATE touches at Pula Candore, which Barlow briefly describes. As they sail on towards Saint Helena, the captain orders the best sails to be replaced by old sails, against Barlow's advice. When the old mainsail is torn to pieces in a gust of wind, the captain unfairly blames Barlow, orders him off the deck and relieves him of his post as chief mate. Barlow admits that he is outspoken.

Page 292 (verso): At Saint Helena they hear news of Admiral Rooke's victory at Vigo against the French and Spanish, but also of the loss of the East Indiamen BEDFORD and NORWICH. The captain complains about Barlow and he is sent on board the KINGFISHER for the voyage home. On the way back they see a school of more than fifty whales. They also encounter many ships and hear about the progress of the war.
