Journal of William Sangster, Engineer, 1832-1896, plus some loose pages and a photograph

Includes (i) Journal kept by William Sangster on the merchant vessel HURRICANE on a voyage from London to Bombay [Mumbai], 23 October 1858 to 29 January 1859; (ii) some pages from a separate notebook, showing details of his employment at the Bombay Dockyard; (iii) a portrait photograph of him.

Administrative / biographical background
William Sangster was born in Scotland in 1832. He was an engineer at HM Indian Dockyard in Bombay [Mumbai]. On 24 September 1861 he was made the Foreman of Workshops. He was promoted from 3rd Class to 2nd Class Engineer on 12 April 1862, and to 1st Class Engineer on 15 November 1867. He died in Scotland in 1896.
