Private journal kept by Assistant Paymaster Henry Alexander Malaher on the central battery ironclad HMS IRON DUKE (1870), flagship on the China station, from 16 September 1871 to 19 August 1872. It includes an account of Japanese ladies fashions in Nagasaki. A cabinet card photograph showing a portrait of Malaher (‘great uncle Harry’) in unform, taken by the Stanley studio, 22 Westmoreland Street, Dublin, 1910, is loose inside the volume.
