Journal kept by Chief Stoker E C Markquick, on a visit to Flanders, January 1916 as a representative of the Grand Fleet and HMS BRITANNIA, 1916. He describes the journey to the front line from Edinburgh via London, Folkestone and Boulogne. The whole party is kitted out with khaki uniforms in London and undergoes training in the use of gas masks and grenades. They also march to within 200 yards of the front line trenches near their base at Reninghelst in Belgium. Includes sketches and diagrams including some of army camps.
