Narrative account by Lieut Richard Pickersgill of the voyage of HMS RESOLUTION, 1772-1773.

Richard Pickersgill, narrative account of the voyage of the RESOLUTION, Captain Cook, 1772-73, see appendix.
Pickersgill was the Third Lieutenant on board the Resolution. The journal gives an intimate insight into life on board ship. He describes the "arduous enterprise" of crossing the Antarctic Circle, the "charming sight of New Zealand and encounters with peoples of the South Seas. His description of their customs is perhaps less sympathetic than that of James Cook.
